title: Alerts now support anomaly detection

Honeybadger now watches each project's overall error volume and alerts you when it spikes above what's normal for that project.

Some of the worst incidents don't show up as a single new error. They show up as a flood, like when a deploy goes sideways, a dependency starts failing, or traffic surges. Anomaly detection learns what normal looks like for each project and tells you when something is genuinely out of the ordinary.

We study each project's typical hour-to-hour error volume over the past couple of weeks to build a baseline. Every few minutes, we check the current rate against that baseline and alert you when it's statistically unusual for that project — for example, "errors are 4.7× your normal rate." It's built to avoid noise and applies a two-hour cooldown, so a single spike notifies you once rather than continuously.

**To turn it on:**

1. Go to **Project Settings → Alerts & Integrations** and edit any integration — Slack, email, PagerDuty, Opsgenie, SMS, Microsoft Teams, webhook, and more.
2. Turn on **anomaly detection** in the integration's options.

Alerts flow through the same channels you already use for Honeybadger notifications. New or low-traffic projects need at least 48 hours of error activity before anomaly detection can establish a baseline.

Rate escalations still exist if you want a fixed threshold. Anomaly detection is the set-it-and-forget-it option that automatically adapts to each project. Since a spike is something to react to now, not an issue to file, alerts only go out through your notification channels — it doesn't create tickets in GitHub, Jira, or Linear.

Anomaly detection is available on Business and Enterprise plans. Read more in the [integrations guide.](https://docs.honeybadger.io/guides/integrations/#error-volume-anomaly-detection)
